A Military Wedding at Birmingham Botanical Gardens – Mike & Dan

OMG. Do I have a cute wedding couple for you today. While I am always a sucker for a man in uniform, this wedding is particularly special as today is remembrance day in the UK and we all had a minute of silence this morning to remember the men and women who were killed during the two World Wars and other conflicts. You might remember Mike and Dan’s super cute engagement shoot that I featured a while back and today I have their absolutely beautiful wedding to share with you via the lovely Lisa Carpenter.

So a bit about the handsome grooms… Mike and Dan were married on August 12th 2011 at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Mike flew off to Afghanistan last month with the rest of his regiment, just a couple of weeks after their honeymoon. He’ll be on the front line for six months. Now I am on a good day an emotional mushy monster when it comes to weddings but the fact that his his regiment were all present at the wedding as well as his stag weekend is just incredible. I love the way Lisa was able to capture the pure emotion in each of their faces when they first saw each other and the laughter during the speeches.

While there was no overall specific theme to the big day, hint’s of Mikes military background were evident in the cake as it was decorated with his
regimental crest. They then had a general colour theme of Red and Teal Green to match the military mess dress.

Mike wore regimental blues for the ceremony and mess dress for the evening while Dan wore a prince Edward jacket and formal trousers in navy blue with an ivory waistcoat and scarlet red neckerchief from Slaters. The two make probably the most handsome couple I have ever seen! The groomsmen wore the same as Dan in formal jackets and trousers while the bridesmaids wore matching red dresses to carry on the theme.

Advice from the Grooms:
Relax and enjoy the day, focus on each other and don’t stress. Once the day starts very little is in your control and by then it’s too late πŸ™‚

Any regrets?
None, I only wish I could do it again!

Best decision made:
Choosing our Photographer and Venue. Lisa captured our day perfectly and we have so many happy memories to look back on thanks to her. The venue was also a place close to our hearts, we wanted to have the ceremony there so we persevered and got our date booked nice and early.

For more information make sure to head on over to Lisa Carpenter’s website and blog for more details. Have a lovely rest of your afternoon and please leave a comment to show your support for the troops!
